1992 penny words look different

Silly question guys, why do the words and the date look thicker than other 1992 pennies? Just wondering.

Worn dies, perhapse. The date has shadowing to the right of the numbers, is that just the pic or is it there on the coin?

 

Machine Doubling.... but its probably the most dramatic I've seen.

many sets of dies are used and they will all wear differently, so all coins will have minute differences depending on die wear, the date shows typical die deterioration doubling.. look at the 1989D here... http://www.error-ref.com/?s=Die+Deterioration+Doubling+

 

DDD is correct.. it's Doubling affecting the Plating.

 

That's a nice find Sheila. Great toning starting to appear, MD and die deterioration. Not worth much but what more could you ask for, for the cost of a penny?

Yep, I used the wrong term. Die Deterioration Doubling is the correct term.
