Only on a coin forum is my title non-automotive related lol. Be honest though, who got fooled for a second :)

Just picked up these two for my DC o/s set a couple weeks ago. Paid $220 for the Peace & $99 for the Dime. How'd I do? I know I got a darn good deal on the Peace but I can't find any realized prices for a Carr Roosie. Whatcha think?

And PLEASE don't turn this into a hate thread :punch::vomit::happy:

I'm just happy I bought the Peace dollars when they can out, but I didn't bother with the dime.

Me too. The one that has eluded me so far is the 1927-D Oregon overstrike.

A different coin but in the same series: I gave about $110ish for my 1910 Indian Cent. I'd say you did better than I did.

So help me here, does he mint these on actual peace dollars and dimes? Or is it just the same kind of planchet?

Yes, and it states so on the label.

O/S on the label stands for "overstrike" as in "struck on a". He uses mid grade specimens I believe

They are beautiful. I have the Peace Dollar, and have it as both a 69 and a 70. :)

I give up on these obvious copies . I just can't see why the lovers of these don't want the word copy or even Daniels initials on them , even in an inconspicuous place such as the rim .

:stop:Come on. No "I don't like these for this reason or that"... PLEASE. We've all heard the arguments of both sides and I don't want this thread turned into the same 10 pages of arguments as other threads. Thanks ;)

Nice coins! I'm curious what grade of 1922-1935 Peace Dollar is needed to overstrike and end up with an MS-69. Seems it would need to be pretty high?

Any marks on the coin are pressed out while being overstruck.

I can't speak for the coins pictured here, but with a loupe you can still see the original date on my Indian (1908).

Yes. On many, unless the coin was precisely lined up to the details on the new die you can see "ghost" remnants of the host coin

I can see some ghosting on my 1910 IHC's also. Older coin, bronze, high details sure that factors.

In all fairness, if it's okay for fans to express their views, it should be equally okay for the other side to express their sentiments as well. After all, this is a discussion forum. If one was to start a thread critical of Carr's copies, even with a request that it not turn into another debate, would his fans turn the other cheek? Of course not, and rightly so.

But it most often gets to the point of name calling and insults. That's not necessary. If you don't like or collect (insert subject here), why bother jumping in? There's no need to belittle another person because they don't like what you like or do it the way you do.

Regardless of how one feels about the overstrikes, Mr. Carr's account of his Grabener Coin Press (once used by the Denver Mint) is fascinating! It even contained various planchets, etc. Check it out.

I'm all for people expressing whatever view they have. But here on ct (and elsewhere though it can get way out of hand here) it gets to the same level of a political thread and I respectfully ask for this thread not to become like all the rest. That's all :smug:

And yes, I would turn the other cheek if the op who created the thread asked out of respect but also because I wouldn't participate in a thread solely created to bash someone. Maybe that's just me though. And I'm not asking for a love fest thread here, just a "hey I got some new coins, check em out" thread
