I found this 1988 series $1 bill. At first I didn't think anything of it until I looked at it and noticed that there was a misalignment on the back of the bill. Then I noticed a piece of tape holding the bill after carefully removing the tape I noticed that the bill was folded over before it printed. However, the bill has not only tape marks on it but someone decided to write on the bill with ink. Anyways I was wondering if it would still be worth anything?
That was my first reaction. I've never seen anything like it before. I'm just surprised someone would actually write on it and then spend it like a normal dollar.
They taped it to make it look like a dollar. When I found it I was a General Manager at Wendy's. They used it to pay for their meal. I tried to get as close as I possibly could.
It doesn't add up... the reverse printed just fine. I guess I need to learn more about the printing process, but I don't see how that could've happened.
Yes, it's a gutter fold error. Because of the gutter fold, there's a serious misalignment of the print on the back, too. At the very least, your note should be stored in a protective sleeve. It will command a premium if you were to put it up for auction. A very nice find.
You should of created this thread in the Paper Money forum and asked the value there. But these are collectable and do have a small premium.
A star note, or bill as you call it, is a note whose serial number ends with a star instead of a letter. They are used to replace damaged notes. It's a counting thing.
