In the standard catalog they list as $3 each in UNC condition (KM#13a).

Modern Irish coins have always been popular with British Commonwealth numismatists.I do collect them myself.

what is the rule for grading these coins?

John, modern Irish coins are graded according to the British Commonwealth (7 point) grading system, but they are notoriously difficult to grade,as there is often weak striking on the obverse, especially in the centre of the harp strings.

Drusus, don't forget that some animals also reappear on the 1st. Decimal coins. For example, the woodcock, which is depicted on the Farthing, also appears on the 50 Pence coin as well. The stag is the odd one out,as it only appears on the 1 Pound coin, plus on 2 Irish ECU medal-coins as well.
