My grandmother has been keeping bills with the star at the end of them for awhile now. From reading posts this bill looks like it's only worth face value but the bill is from what I can tell in pretty good shape, no visible folds, some small crinkles and corners are a bit worn. The print number isn't anything special. Just looking to make sure it's only worth face value before going about spending it. Thanks for any help.
Definitely a keeper for sentimental reasons. Grade wise, for currency collectors it's quite worn. Here are links to PMG and PCGS Currency to learn a bit about how various kinds of bumps, wrinkles, etc. factor in for grading. I'd say this one's around a 15 or 20 from the limitations of grading from the pics. In this condition, perhaps $120 tops. Maybe $150 in a bidding-war. Get a currency sleeve for it and tuck it away under some books and it may help the note to lay flatter over a considerable amount of time.
Without question this note has collector value. 1950C $100 star without any tears or holes (as far as I can see). Has wrinkles but doesn't appear to have any major folds or creases and appears crisp. This a very nice piece.
Maybe this piece refreshes the memory of losing their loved one and it's too much for them to bear? Maybe they aren't a sentimental person? Maybe they believe holding on to objects simply out of sentiment is a mental weakness? (yea I just went there )
Don't EVER spend it, I'm going to it's worth around $130-$200 (according to Ebay) I have some really cool coins I got from my older brother before he moved to an apartment. So this 100 dollar bill* is priceless, because your grandma gave it to you.
