Found this one. I soaked 71s-rev1.jpg 71-s-rev2.jpg it in acetone, distilled water. Nothing happened. It looked like glue, or ink, but it's raised, and did not dissolve. On the far left bays the copper looks like doubled columns.

Is it actually blue or is that your highlighting?

It's blue. That's why I thought it was ink. It is raised, and only in the bays

It's strange, my guess is marker of some sort...

Perhaps a permanent dye of some sort?

I soaked it in lighter fluid, then I soaked it in a new "California solvent" that's supposed to be "not unlike" Xylene. It's less blue now and I can see more clearly the marks inside the bays.
Maybe I'll warm it up in some soapy water next. Image26550.jpg Image26551.jpg Image26552.jpg Image26553.jpg

    Better lighting is needed.

Here it is after the soap and water. No more blue stuff. It has something in the memorial still. Image26565.jpg Image26566.jpg Image26567.jpg Image26568.jpg

If the lines are still raised , I'd say it's probably some kind of epoxy .

I don't feel it came from the mint that way.

Someone dragged the point of a sharp stylus through each affected bay.

Mike that's what I thought till he said they were raised . To me the pics look like they took a small round dremel cutter and cut the center of the affected bays out .

Only the edges of the grooves are raised as the result of metal displacement. The floor is recessed. Since they're colored blue, I suspect the tip of a fine ballpoint pen was used.

Someone must have been pretty bored, or they were trying to set me up.. lol
It would be hard but not impossible to keep the pen just in the bays.
    Thanks everyone
