My last flurry of recent purchases arrived this morning. Every coin looks better than the photos. Yes, I am excited and glad I spent the money. I'm only listing the coins that apply to ancients here. I will post the others I purchased in another forum. All photos are not mine. Hope you like them and any feedback is appreciated as this is new to me, as you well know. Now, I have 13 ancients.

I've listed all I know about them. If I need corrected or you have something to add, please do so.

Coin #1: Julius Caesar Silver Denarius, African Mint 47 BC. Obv. is a Diademed bust of Venus facing right. Rev. features Aeneas walking left, with the word CAESAR to the right. Unfortunately there is a small cut on the Obv. cheek. But it comes with a small amount of toning on both sides.

2nd Coin: Roman Republic Silver Denarius circa 82 BC. L. Censorinus. Obv. shows Apollo facing right with Satyr Marsyas facing left on Rev. Looks fairly high grade to me.

3rd Coin: Greek Silver 1/5th Tetradrachm. Philip II 359-336 BC. Kingdom Macedon. Apollo Rev. This was Alexander The Greats father.

I agree. Few people with 13 ancients have anything approaching the interesting types you show here.

Nice trio of coins, CN, I hope 2016 brings you many more excellent ancients.

I haven't crossed yet. Check out my post, "What A Beautiful Coin" and you'll understand. :) I will admit that I'm finding some of these ancient coins extremely interesting.

The fractional silver of Philip II is an unusual and very interesting choice for someone who is starting out in ancients. First off, the type is quite scarce, very small, and difficult to find in pleasing grades. Not at all the typical beginner's choice. It's a super little coin!
