Hey everyone! Just poking through a pile of foreign silver I purchased a few weeks ago, found this really cool 1861 Threepence with a really strong obverse die clash. Enjoy!
If you're not keeping this one, set it aside. We'll figure out the quid pro quo. Always happy to give Vicky a home...
Nice! The clash marks in front of the portrait are really strong. I think I'm seeing something behind her near the neck, but, IIRC these are done in medallic alignment, and the only thing that would line up is part of the 3. Is that right?
@Paul M. - This coin was struck with coin alignment, so the clash marks behind her head are from the lower right (as you look at it) part of the crown. You can see the top of the crown poking out underneath her portrait, and the numerous wreath clashes surrounding her forehead make it appear that her head is, dare I say it, on fire. @jester3681 - will send a PM. Don't get in trouble with the mods!
Very cool. I have one with the opposite clash - outline of Vicky's bust around the denom. Her nose starts right at the tip of the 1 in the date.
