Here are some coins I found that I believe to be errors. Feel free to tell me your thoughts or share your own. I specifically have doubts on whether the 1959 KM57 is an error. Cheers KM50, 1956 Die Crack KM57, 1959 struck through something? KM68, 1974 Doubling on Republica KM112.3, 1995B. This one is kind of a double error because they engraved the die with "Provingias" instead of "Provincias" and also because I see doubling on the Sun.
Wow. I say yes to all your finds. Especially the PROVINGIAS coin! I read about that one once and think they are great. Nice find!
Thank you! The Provingias one was minted in Great Britain. The weird thing is they minted the correct spelling in Great Britain as well that same year. 56,000,000 Provingias and 14,000,000 Provincias. I wonder the story behind that one?
Yeah, I wish someone knew that story. There are too many stories probably known by a few but never told publicly. How did you find out those mintages? Is the variety given it's own mintage in the catalog?
I agree about the stories bit. It's in my Standard of World Coins Catalog 1901-2000, 41st edition and yes, it has its own variety. Unfortunately, I didn't find that on my own on accident.
Last night I was motivated from these posts and went through my stash of nickel coins, again. I found a 1977 doubled die Netherlands 25 cent. The date is clearly doubled. The other side seems to have machine doubling and doubled die effects, but they are less obvious than the date on the other side of the coin. I'll take a pic in a bit and post it later
Hello, I just came across 5 -- 5 Centavos coins dated 1954-1956. They all have irregular borders and look to be double struck. Is this common for this coin. I have noticed similar irregularities in some of my other Argentinian coins.
I'd love to see them to be more helpful. It is not uncommon to have irregularities with the coins, it's just the types you find. Some are extravagant and some minor. If you can, snap a photo or two and share. I found this in my grandfather (in-law)'s coins a while back and pointed it out to him:
I know these pictures are late. I couldn't get the camera right so I had to play with the scanner. These are the 5 coins I mentioned above. Any thoughts??
Sorry, but you're going to have to put your scanner on a higher quality setting and scan your coins. I can't tell anything from those photos. Do you happen to have a phone with a camera in it? Those can do just fine. If not, I'm afraid I won't be of much help. The only Argentina coin like yours that I could find of interest was this one with a die crack. Do your rims look similar to mine?
If you click on the pictures and open with Paint you can get real real good zoom on the pictures. Try that. My phone doesn't take good pictures.
