I got these earlier this year but have been a little busy. These are 2 of the better ones. I believe Valens. Im afraid im not very good at cleaning these.
You can easily tell most of those should yield relatively nice coins. I see at least one vota and a few camp gate reverses. Can't wait to see what else you uncover. Please keep us updated.
Good work. Those are as good looking uncleaned as I've seen in a long time. Buying coins with a chance makes a big difference doesn't it?
I think they cleaned up nicely. There are 1 or 2 of them in that pic that I would believe were exceptionally round dirt clods if you didn't tell me they were coins.
Wow, super cleaning job ..... man, every now and then I see a thread like this and I get the ol' coin-cleaning urge (very nice looking lil' hoard of uncleaned coins) ... but then I'll read through the other slightly more typical coin cleaning threads and I quickly lose the urge to clean my own coins (*sigh*) => it really does seem like a whole lotta work for very few "eureka" finds!! ... but again, congrats on scoring yourself a very positive looking bunch of test subjects (please keep showing us all of your cool finished products!)
The first coin is a very common type of Valens, the second is Constantius II, galley type. This coin isn't rare, but it's much less common than others you might find in a cleaning lot. Nice find!
VERY NICE!!! And you did a great job cleaning the 'dirt' and not the patina or metal... I bought a 'lot' and shockingly already received it from across the pond... It resembles yours and I thought it might reveal a few decent examples. Of the few I began cleaning, two or three already show F-VF details and one is even an up-grade over most of my Probus examples, with a hint of remaining silvering. I'll try to post some in a day or two... Good luck on the remainder @britannia40
thanks. I have some more photo'd I believe most are valens or Constantine a few of the first pics aren't so clear sorry. not sure if these are all common or not.
Love the campgate. Keep this up and you will be able to more than double your money on the lot by selling them after they are clean.
these two really confuse me. one looks like a woman with the long hair. and the other appears to be silver clad
Nice ... it would be kinda sweet if you could show 'em altogether somehow? (they're all certainly fine specimens ... if you didn't want to keep them, I'm pretty sure that somebody would take a few of them off your hands)
Last group. photos are as hard to do as the cleaning some didn't has as good as detail as others. But im told they are pretty good for buried coins.
