What is it that you want friend? What is it that you seek knowledge on? We are ready to help, but you must be clear with your inquiry.
Yes, please elaborate on this supposed 5 cent coin you're asking about. What do you think it is, where did you hear about it, and what are you trying to find about it? We need more information than the title of this thread to be able to help you out.
Well... I believe this is a place to get help in identifying coins... Yes? If not... Just shoo me away... and I'll go... But... If you would deem me worthy... I would be so very grateful for the help. As the subject suggests I am looking for information on a coin I have in my possession which has the verbiage of: "THE CRYSTAL - J. LUSCH JR. - 5¢". I'm helping my 90 year-old uncle research his coins... I've been successful on my search for many of the coins... But this one has me stumped. What is the best resource to acquire history on this coin?
I have no experience with coins... But I too am thinking token. I'll go back to Google and do more research as a token.
I just did a few Google searchs, e.g. Crystal Ballroom, Crystal Bar and Grill, etc., along with the J. Lusch, Jr. name. Bingo! Found the Crystal Hotel, Altoona, PA, with J. Lusch, Jr. Proprietor. Putting my money on that firm being the distributor of that token. Crist Clapper, this should help you search further. Steve
Not only does it help with research, I don't know of many collectors who wouldn't like to see something they may have seen or never seen before. Can't think of a better introduction of oneself to a coin community than a photo of a cool coin.
Agreed, it's definitely a token. Does it have any other words on the token? I use this database to search out tokens, though I couldn't find yours in it: http://tokencatalog.com/index.php We love to help people out here we just need images and as much detail as possible!
Good work, Steve! @Crist Clapper First, welcome to the neighborhood! Based on the information you provided and that which Steve found, I'm guessing that it is probably a token commonly referred to as a "Good For". Chris
The Crystal House (Hotel), Formerly Magee Hotel, Jacob Lusch, Jr., Proprietor, located 1023-25-27 Green Ave. Apparently Mr. Lusch Jr. also owned a cigar company as well as a soda/bottle manufacturing. The era was probably around 1900-1920 that this token was made.
