I would ask around local banks. What I usually say is, "Hello, I collect old coins and bills and am just wondering if you have seen any older money lately" Then clarify what you you are looking for by saying, "The old bills with the red or blue seals, wheat pennies, buffalo nickels, or any dimes quarters or halves with a silver edge instead of copper"

In the past year I have found 5 $1 silver certificates, 4 $2 red seals, 3 $5 red seals (oldest 1928g), 1934c $5 Silver Certificate, 1950 $5, 1934 $10 silver certificate, 1934a $10. 1928 $50 redeemable in gold. Many silver halves, dimes and quarters, many wheat cents and buffalo nickels. Most of this is stuff saved by a couple of tellers who have gotten to know me at the bank.

I have found that if you are very polite and stopby every now and then than they will set stuff aside for you.

In fact, I would check the service desk at the supermaket too. One supermaket saved a silver certificate, 3 silver quarters and a merc in for me in an envelope one day. I have also found silver halves too. My greatest circulation find ever was 32 Walking Liberty Halves and an Uncirculated silver quarter, found at a supermarket. They were so happy to finally get rid of the halves which they had for months that they thanked me even more than I thanked them, I think I thanked them over 40 times though :)

Good luck, I hope you find some great finds :)

Also, Most banks are quite happy to give out their two dollar bills, which they find annoying. I find most banks to have them too. Also, almost every bank that I have been to is fine with you getting a box of coins. Just ask if there is anyway you can buy a box of coins and maybe explain that you are collector.

It depends, or just ask for any that have the "red letters or seal instead of the green" most have seen them and know what you are talking about and will check. I find that to be the easiest way to find old $2 bills.

Unfortunately my local bank tellers have been told to 'set aside' the OLDER money, bills with "small" faces.

This is exactly what I do. You'd be surprised at what can be handed over at face value. All you have to do is ask.

Yep, At first I thought that it is impossible to find a silver dime in change. Now I had half a roll of silver dimes, some war nickels and buffalo nickels saved by a teller one day. It pays to ask...
