Actually, it never happened. The dealer never shipped the coin, and the sale was cancelled. Too bad, so sad. Oh well. Some things work out and others don't. Not as if I don't have enough in the way of great coins. Would have looked nice with my collection of Libertads, but as the French say, tan pis. Seller upped the price for the remaining sets, so it was all about money. Ironic, as I tend to spend a lot on coins.
Lucked out on this key date Libertad. Lowest mintage of the series, and was lucky in stumbling across it by accident:
Had these pieces arrive in the mail today. 1837 Un Sou Token 1853-65 Japan Shu 1837-54 Japan BU 1911-16 China Tibet Sichuan Rupee
Reaching the end of my Netherlands 2.5G set when my PCGS batch ships..Time to start stretching into some more types. For some reason this coin spoke to me and its now on its way to its future home. Sellers pics.
Relatively new pickup for my Hungarian type set, just back from NGC. 1868KB 4 Krajczar KM442 (one year type) NGC MS65 BN Copper 13.3g, 27mm diameter, 2.8mm thickness
They are common, but interesting in that this design was used for a few years, then brought back 50 years later for a couple more years. How often does that happen? Cool stuff and nice coin
So I had a good evening yesterday. Someone was selling off an old Aussie collection and I as able to get some real treats. I really wish I wasn't a poor student and could have spent more. There were $200 coins going for $20. But I couldn't buy them all, I am happy with what I got. Surprisingly all the ones I thought I would win (the ones that should have sold for just melt) I didn't. Most of these are high AU to MS.
Went by my LCS and he had some 2016s I couldn't resist. A little gunk on the capsule that looks like it's on the Queen .
I took a gamble and purchase a lot of these Cuba 10 Centavos. All are uncirculated and could even fall in the BU category. Size is correct, same as our dime, and weights vary from 2.49 to 5.51 g which is close to the 2.5 g. Any experts out there on Cuban coins. Anyone suspect they may be fake? They match all of the photos I found on line. The 1952s all look weakly struck. Edit - Have a "closer look" here: https://www.cointalk.com/threads/cuba-coin-expert.272009/
I just photographed this a couple of days ago. This coin circulated in Gottingen Germany as part of their commerce. It's of interest to me as I put together a local collection for my son and daughter-in-law. Generations of her family lived in Gottingen and still do. The Hesse-Cassel Landgrave was only 31 miles away by road and 24 miles as the crow flies. NGC has graded this as AU50. I have trouble believing this is more than a VF35 coin. On a great day maybe XF40. This is the second coin I purchased, in a short period, where I think they were too generous with the grade. The other was a MS62 I thought to be a AU53 at the best. Perhaps this is the leniency I hear about, which older currency is given?
I picked up this worn bit of history... 1794 Swiss Geneva Revolutionary Coin. 15 Sols. The Swiss were latching onto the thoughts of Liberty and Equality stirring in France.
