Curious on the grade of these coins I recently purchased ?

    63 or 64 on the Ike if not cleaned.
    AU-50 on the Franklin.

    I'm right there with Larry on both . AU-50 on the Franklin and 63 on the Ike .

    For reference, I paid about ~$10 for the the Franklin and ~$4 for the Ike to an online dealer.

    I think $4 for a Ike of that grade, if not cleaned, is a fantastic deal.

    Is their a simple trick to detect if the coin is not cleaned ?

    Only if it's been harshly cleaned and has hairlines or other marks from rough treatment . One can tell from years of looking at many coins over the years but even then there's always disagreement . Even the tpgs can't always tell and error on the side of caution with a Questionable color tag on their slab . A good place to look at thousands of coins is Heritage where you can see the coins that they determine to be cleaned or not . it's at ha.com .
