Hi all I need help with identifying a coin? I found in a wheat penny roll any help would be awesome. Stamped GTC on front with blank reverse.

Not so much a 'coin'. More exonumia related, perhaps a Merchant token.

Considering it was found in a roll I wonder if it's a blank planchet that's simply been counterstamped? Whatever the case, it definitely looks like it's seen its fair share of circulation either as a cent or a token.

I see what could be a little rim on the side opposite the counterstamp; maybe an original Cent ground down?

Yikes. Seems a little harsh on a new member.

It's what some people do to new members around here. They are the enemy of the hobby (and themselves), because they don't want to encourage newer collectors who will then be the buyers for their own coins down the road.

    Seems self-defeating, doesn't it? :)

You said that well. I think it's time that we start telling those that act that way to play nice.

The style of the letters give it the look of being old. You might weigh it.

Well, did you identify the coin? Or were you more interested in slamming me?

This is probably your best answer. It may also have been carried as a pocket piece which would account for the wear.
Why it was done we can only speculate. Maybe by someone who had a dear friend or relative pass away and did it to remember them.
Also, welcome to the forum and your pics are totally uncrappy.

When you google GTC, lots of stuff comes up but nothing I would say that's helpful.

I think what you're seeing is the bottom side of a blank planchet. I've seen a lot of these, when they get punched out of the metal strip, the top side edge is rounded and the bottom side edge is somewhat raised. It kind of looks like a rim to some degree.

What does it weigh? If too heavy or too light, that would eliminate it being made from a U.S. cent.
