is there such a thing? where can i find it? What sort of a vam is it? I bought one graded by ANACS as ms 63 and was wondering if it was valuable? thanks.
It depends which one it is. Also if there is a buyer who would pay a premium for that VAM at the time you want to sell it . Try here first & match it with one of these possibly- PEACE $ VAM
Yes, please post a picture. The 1922 Peace is known for a lot of 'Machine Doubling' and 'die crackage.' Ben
here is a picture. You guys do know by now that i dont have a camera. and getting these pictures is a pain. Sometimes we could do with a lil bit of imagination especially since we are all a big happy family I wouldnt know what to do without you guys. Thanks for always being there
Show me a better picture & I MIGHT be able to help. VAMs are tough & most of the time you need them in hand to get a true diagnostic.
Take a look at some of these and see if they apply to your dollar. http://vamworld.wikispaces.com/Top+50+Peace+Dollar+VAMs
DDO's I found are frequent. I had 2 lost one to my brother in a bet. The one I still have has like a shelf down the front of the face as well as some doubling around nthe 10 and 11 o'clock position in the letters. But I didnt see that degree of doubling of the face in the VAMlinks. Hm...leme wake up and I can work on pics.....
First of all, since the coin in an old ANACS slab and it is labeled as a DDO then you can trust that there is such a thing. You can see the known examples on the link that Bone provided, just compare your coin to those in the pics and you'll know which one it is. As for the second part of your question, I would first ask you this - if you don't know anything about the coin why would you buy it ? How would you know if you were paying way too much, the right amount or getting a bargain ? It can be quite dangerous to your wallet to buy things that you do not understand.
Well i just wanted to get a good peace dollar and dont worry it wasnt dangerous for my wallet. i just paid for it what it would cost to put it in the slab so it was a bargain. I just dont know how good of a bargain it was. Its hard to compare the coin when you know little of the series. Its the first peace dollar coin i have laid my eyes on Would you happen to know the value of this coin?
this is what i get. Wonder what R-5 means? II 3 · B2a (Doubled Obverse) Obverse II 3– Doubled die in 9 o’clock direction. Rays of light in tiara doubled on left side. Nose, lips and chin slightly doubled. L in LIBERTY doubled towards rim. N GOD WE, T of TRVST and designer’s initials doubled on left side. Rarity: R-5
The value depends on which DDO it is, that's why you need to compare your coin to those in the link Bone provided.
The last VAM 8 sold on Heritage brought $143.00. Now I'd like to know who sold it to you for $30, because if it was a dealer you need to stay away from them - apparently they don't know anything.
O must be my lucky day. I bought quite a few slabs that i know nothing about mostly at slabbing costs. Looks like the best is yet to come.
I'm not sure about that.....if they are a dealer, and don't do VAMs, errors or anything like that, they could be a great source. I would always mind my P's and Q's, but I would do that regardless of who I was dealing with.:thumb:
If the coin were raw I would agree, but when it is slabbed as a DDO you can bet a dealer is gonna look it up. The real danger though is that if a dealer is careless enough to not look it up or he just plain doesn't know - then what else is there about the other coins he is selling that he doesn't know ? He could easily be offering counterfeits, damaged coins, harshly cleaned coins etc etc. As a result the buyer could very easily take quite a bath. I guess the point I am trying to make is this - if you yourself don't know for sure what you are doing, then you better be damned sure that your dealer does ! To do otherwise is to risk just throwing your money away.
good point GDJMSP you have been looking out for me since day 1. but tell me if the coin is in the slab doesnt it mean its genuine and doesnthave any problems especially since we are talking ANACS,PCGS, and NGC
