I just came across this on eBay. Now they have moved on from the jars of coins to sealed evidence bags.. Wow!! What will they come up with next? http://www.ebay.com/itm/SEALED-ALCA...-CIRC-COINS-/381465245299?hash=item58d119b673
This seller has been selling these 'evidence bags' and 'unclaimed property bags' for years. It saddens me that they are able to misrepresent their items in this way preying on the under informed. Alcatraz has been shuttered for decades.
Nobody deserves to be ripped off by these con-men who take advantage of trusting people. It's too bad that Ebay does not take a more active role in trying to control these scams
It is the same marketing scheme you see all the time like "junk drawer", "unsearched rolls", or jars.
Two statements come to mind: There's a sucker born every minute. A fool is easily parted from his money.
It's actually a good price - if the slabs are re-usable. Those are expensive! Ungraded and well circulated common date coins in an unlabeled "plastic bag" from Alcatraz.... Never know, they might accidentally put something nice in there. But I digress...
Good article on slabbed coins: http://www.usgoldexpert.com/articles/the-10-greatest-myths-of-slabbed-coins/
Barcodes were invented in the early 1970's. The first item to be scanned was a pack of Wrigley's gum if memory serves from whatever history channel show I learned it from. I believe that pack of gum now resides in the Smithsonian. This freakin auction is so stupid it's kinda awesome. It's like what? What an I looking at here, what am I buying some souvenir evidence bag from the museum that alcatraz has become filled with some generic slabs. Who buys this stuff it's like common sense just goes out the window these 20 buyers
That's my thought exactly!! Who are these morons buying this stuff? If they have so much money to just throw away, why not just give it to me?
