Ok...Someone please burst my fantasy bubble so I can stop obsessing over this coin. I know it can't be...I'm not that lucky, but it looks so different than my other 64s. Got the best pics I could...but even with coin in hand I can't tell if it has the tear shaped mark under the four that I read about and I'm afraid to try to clean the area. It does seem to maybe have the blobbish serif on the base of the B that I saw online...maybe? And...it's kinda shiny [IMG] I'm clueless about coin collecting except what I have been reading recently. Let me down easy image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

    First, welcome to the forum!

I think you just have a nice toned well struck AU kennedy half dollar. It's just less circulated than your other 64, there's more mint luster left on this one. I'm not a kennedy expert tho, so wait for others to weigh in.

Thank you. I've seen how these threads usually go, haha. Any way to clean it a little to try and see the area under the 4?

Yes, but I would not attempt it any numismatic value would be lost. It's a nice Kennwdy, I'd leave it be.

Interesting story, my son and wife bought me a money clip with a 64 Kennedy on it just like yours, the toning was very similar. I like it, very subtle.

Maybe you've been carrying around your dollar bills in a 15,000 dollar clip :)

Are there other reasons than "shiny" and mentioned possible markers that cause you to question it as potentially being different? Have you closely examined and compared the overall characteristics of both yours and known specimens? Notice in particular the strike, details, rims, etc and see what you come up with. You certainly seem to already know the answer, but sometimes it's best to convince yourself instead of having others tell you; we learn more that way imo. :)

    Welcome to the forum, sir.

Probably just a combo of wishful thinking and the fact that I only have two other 64s to compare with...and they are both dull.

I'm not knowledgable enough on coins to really examine it properly....that's why I asked y'all :) I have been reading a lot online trying to learn. My parents gave me some coins recently and I dug mine out that I've had since I was a kid. It's fun to go thru them and try to find something rare. If only one of those 44 pennies would have stuck to the magnet.

    Thanks for the welcome!

Opps... in my defense though, I could barely make out the cow until I looked at her main page. "Sir" is usually a safe bet around here, but you know what they say about assuming... ;)

    My apologies, ma'am.
