Here's coin i just bought recently....Its a 1863 Civil War Penny "Not One Cent"....Not sure of what variety this is so if someone could help me than would be great.....The lucky part about this buy is that upon closer look there a distinct Double Die Error on the "T" in "Not" and a double "N" in "one"....Tell me what you think and please post pics of your Errors
Okay, 1) It is doubleD die; 2) and this is not. 3) the letters were individually punched into the die, therefore repunched letters. How can you tell? Easy look at the word 'CENT' see how uneven they are? If they were in all one word punch they would be even
Here is one of my favorite errors I have found CRH'ing. 1982D LMC Lamination. Best part was that the peel was still attached.
I have been posting my Error Coins on CoinTalk for almost 3 years now. I'm a bit thrown off that this thread was created in the Coin Chat forum and not the Error Coins forum
But we are chatting about coins. Error Coins is strictly for error coins and Coin Chat, well that's anything about coins. So he's good in my book.
How do you know that, Rick? If the lamination was there before striking, wouldn't the parts of the devices line up perfectly? Maybe I'm blind, but it doesn't look like it to me. Chris
Where are the bottoms of the "O" & "D"? They should be visible if the lamination was there before striking. Chris
Here's the thread I started on CoinTalk Chris . As for the local show, not much I can show on that . https://www.cointalk.com/threads/19...t-before-strike-or-after.239615/#post-1832592
If the lamination was present before the strike, I still don't see it. The impression of the letters, particularly the "D" should be visible on both segments of the lamination. Chris
Not when there are members who don't care much for Error coins. There are some who have stated that fact. So the Errors should stay in the Error Coins Forum
All those members have to do is not read the thread. If we are worried that a couple of people might be upset that we are talking about coins they don't like, then I'm sorry, I don't care. But we are talking about coins. I celebrate Thanksgiving, not fall festival. I wish people Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, not happy holidays. The tree in my living room is a Christmas Tree not a holiday tree. I couldn't give two farts if 2 people in 1000 are offended by that. The other 998 appreciate it. If we keep pandering to the few, this once great country will be nothing but a memory in some history book, assuming that history book was not rewritten. If you don't like it, ignore it. If it offends you, ignore it. If the U.S. flag offends you, leave. If a thread about error coins is started in a category labeled Coin Chat and you don't like error coins, ignore it. I'm sorry for the rant, but when I'm told that something is wrong, because a couple of people might not like it, it just really, really rubs me wrong. I know there is a category for error coins. That's great for people who want to discuss nothing but error coins. Nothing but error coins should be discussed there. But in a category labeled Coin Chat, then error coins is a legitimate subject. Now if someone were asking about tokens, or bank notes, then yes, they have posted in the wrong category.
