Howdy Folks, I have been thinking of selling my Mercury Dime set. What would a complete set of Mercury dime be worth at auction? The 16-D is a high end About Good and the 21-P,D are very good or better. Thanks for any help. Gregory
Face value: $8 Bullion value about $25+/- Numismatic value: Depends on the grade of each of the 80 coins, and whether or not you find a buyer interested in a set of that average grade. Try checking EBay, Yahoo, and other sites for completed auctions.
I would highly suggest that if you consider selling to a dealer that you make sure that the dealer buys all the material in the set. Do not let them cherry pick the few keys and leave the rest. Out of the set, only a few bring a premium in and of themselves.
Actually, its now over 5 times face. Bullion value is ASW (actual silver weight) times market price for silver. My initial guess was based on $4+ silver, before I checked and found that it has recently zoomed. Today's BV works out to 80 (coins) times .07234 (troy oz. ASW each) times $7.45 (spot silver) = $43.11, or just under 54¢ each.
Thanks, yes I would want to sell all. I worked very hard to build that set through the years I've been thinking of selling one of my complete sets of Lincolns also, the 09-s vdb is slabbed by PCGS at Fine. I have two sets of Mercs and two sets of Lincolns completed. I owe about $2500 left on my mortgage loan after 14 years and figured to sell off some coins to pay it off. I'm pleased to say that I just need 7 more Morgans to complete that set also Thank you, Greg
