I've seen a lot of MD on coins and suspect this probably is too, but a part of me thinks something looks a little different though. I'd love to hear some words of wisdom here. 1982-P_lips1.jpg 1982-P_lips2.jpg

Nice find! I'am not really sure what is going there, but it looks like those lips might be doubled.Maybe mike will stop by and give us some input!

It looks like a doubled die to me. You can also see it along the jaw and chin.

hmm..could be a genuine doubled die altho that orange peel effect around it is a sign of die deterioration...

This is the facial doubling on the 1966SMS, FS-105.

My first reaction would be MDD...especially when I see the areas from the lower lip down, under the chin and neck. I would suggest you take some additional photos moving the light source at different angles and try to filter out some of the glare. Also I think it would help to see a different photo around the eye. I am not a fan of led lighting.

I would say not a doubled die...what do you think?

I looked at a couple of my Kennedys and think we may be seeing optical illusions. The illusion is particularly seen in the base line of the "L". Using an eye loupe to view the line from one side and roll over to the other side you might first see a single line, then the double line and if you go further, the single line again. The illusion is particularly visible if you hold the loupe away from your eye and simply using it as a magnifying glass.

Vintagemintage, one important difference between your coin and the one cpm9ball posted - a red flag to me when I see it - is the even doubling around the lips. On his coin, the doubling is visibly the same size and contour as the feature it doubles; on yours it appears more as an even halo.

For a doubled die, a die would have to be capable of striking the feature you're contemplating. That's a fundamental which can get you out of sticky situations. :)

    MD, in my opinion.
