    Hey gang,
Unfortunately one of my gold coins came back in a details slab from ANACS. Would you buy a details slab that says cleaned AU55 or not, and why not. If you did buy it how much would you pay for it?, and don't be mean please. Just posing this question for discussion that's it. angel9.gif Anyone?

I buy and sell and collect $2 1/2 gold. Yes, I would buy it, but I would probably break it out, and re-sell it as cleaned. Seems they sell better raw cleaned than graded cleaned. I would pay about $240-$250 for it, but I would hope to get a little more when selling. Also, it does not look too harshly cleaned from those pics. Anacs has been tough on these lately.

why do you feel that people would buy the coin if it was broken out of the case as opposed to kept in the case? would you label the coin as cleaned? also, how in the world do you break a coin out of an anacs holder without getting it damaged?

Yes, I would list it with a 'may have been cleaned', 'Cleaned' or cleaned disclaimer type of statement, you're too far ahead of me. As far as breaking it out, I may just hang onto it, I mean it's an AU55 and it doesn't look terrible or anything. It's simply a live and learn situation, that's why I posted this question.

Yeah, I think that its a good looking coin, the colors honestly look really good even if the coin is cleaned, sorry if the first question sounded rude I did not mean for it to come off as it may have.

As a buyer, I'd rather get it in the holder, but would likely break it out anyway.

I'd leave it in the slab for authentication purposes. I'm too worried about counterfeits, even of common stuff, to buy this type of coin raw. Not a bad looking coin BTW.

I'd break it out. I'd sell it as likely cleaned and let buyers make their own cecision whether to slab or lesve raw

There are cleaned coins, and CLEANED! coins.

    it depends on the appearance

I'd leave it alone. To perhaps make you more comfortable with it why not contact ANACS and ask about the "Cleaned" determination. How did they determine that it had been cleaned? what were the tell-tale signs?

If the coin is cleaned it's cleaned. The grading verifies the coin and I think you'd get more for a slabbed coin

If I liked it I'd buy it. What would I pay? Depends on how much I liked it.

Older gold collectors, like older copper collectors, tend to prefer their coins raw. The market for raw coins is quite strong; it's just not Ebay. :)

And there isn't a slab on the market I can't get into cleanly with my Dremel. :)

Haha, yeah, why do you feel that older collectors do not like their coins slabed?
