Just putting in my 5 francs, I know it's cleaned and such but I got it for melt. Jealous of your Napoleon, been looking for an affordable one.

Here is Louis Napoleon in 1852, and as a proud and ambitious Napoleon III in 1868.

 

Among Napoleon III's foreign policy errors he tried to set Maximilian up as emperor of Mexico while the U.S. was distracted with the American Civil War. Maximilian was a brother to Joseph Francis, of Austria-Hungary, who had an interesting and tragic life story of his own. Anyway, Maximilian was not appreciated by the Mexican republicans, who jailed him and then took him out and shot him in 1867. But I digress.... ....

5 francs 1946 from French Protectorate Tunisia.

 

French West Africa.

 

This is the first French coin of my collection. I got it when I was 6-years old boy.

Probably. From what I can tell, this coin came out of the design contests sponsored by the Provisional Government in that year, and Marianne was central to the theme.
