welcome johns! holy smokes, that shekle is hot! the scarab is cool as well. i actually put in a bid on of those this year, but i was to timid to bid much, not knowing enough about them. one is on my "to get list' however. @Daniel Jones the last is an unstruck flan according to johnd, i was curious about the little bump on one surface.
I can't help but notice four different spellings for the same thing in this thread - shekel, shekal, sheckel, shekle. Can we all agree to settle on just one? I suggest... sheqel .
Wow! Those are some awesome scarabs, Steve! It sounds like you've got quite a collection to be jealous of. I tried to find the link to the flan on The Forvm website, but they must have removed it. It's from one of the smaller Ptolemy coins (they can get pretty big). It's 18 mm and 4+g. Some of the Ptolemy coins, from what I've seen, have dimples in the middle, so that might be where the dimple is located. I'd never seen an ancient blank flan before, so I grabbed it while I could. I couldn't believe what I got the shekel for, compared to other ones I'd seen. Thanks for the info on the scarab, Sallent. My real name is Erin. Johndakerftw is a tribute to a video I found on YouTube a few years ago. Erin
