Hi everyone, I'm Erin and I've been collecting ancient coins for about a year and a half. I've been waiting in the background for a while and thought I'd join the community. I also thought I'd share with you my year in review . These are my favourites for the year: A Shekel of Tyre from Ancient Imports A scarab from Zurqeih A blank flan from the Ptolemaic period from Forvm Ancients I did buy other coins, but these and the scarab take the cake. Thanks for looking! Erin
Hi Erin !! Love the artifacts!!! And I love that Shekal...but it reminds me of the one I had to sell years ago and makes me a bit sad..... Hope to replace it soon
Awesome stuff. Welcome aboard, soon us newbies will outnumber the veterans here in the ancient coins section of Cointalk, and that's when we'll set in motion our secret plan to take over the world! Oops, I meant our plan to uhm...never mind, move on, nothing to see here!
Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I really appreciate it. The only reason why i was able to get the shekel was because my Income Tax was really good this year. Most of my coins are between $10-$100. I really like error coins, so the blank flan was right up my alley. The scarab is a present from my brother. We're trying to figure out what it means, but we're kind of lost. My brother also has a scarab that we're trying to find the translation of as well. For those who are interested, here it is: Thanks again! Erin
Your scarab looks like a seal to me. Maybe some ancient businessman or scribe used it as a stamp to put his seal on wax for his correspondence.
Welcome Johndakerftw (Erin?) .... welcome, Johnny-D!! Wow, a Ptolemy and a sweet scarub => I love you already, my new friend!!
Sorry, I don't know anything about scarabs ... ummm, other than the fact that I bought a couple at an auction ... wanna see 'em?
If stevex6 were ever to hold a showing of his collection, I bet you the coins without animals could be displayed in a single album page, while the coins with animals would necessitate a 5,000 square feet room inside a convention center to properly display. He is probably the single reason why we all have to pay $200+ for decent coins with animals. He has literally bought up most of the supply of ancient coins with animals in the private collector's market. I'd be tempted to create a thread titled "show off all the coins with animals you own", but that would be cruel and unusual punishment as poor stevex6 would have to spend the next 2 days glued to his computer trying to post his whole collection.
OK, a seal or a scarub or is there a difference---anyone know??? And, is it 'Johnny D' or Erin??? 'Inquiring' minds want to know
Your Shekel looks great, but what is that thing on the bottom? It looks like a rock. Forgive my ignorance, but I am an amateur at ancients.
