Ok, here are a few more pick ups I made from one of the local bullion shops around here. I snagged them all for 13X face. I feel the 1952-D Washington was the home run of the lot. If there are any Washington variety experts around these parts, I'd appreciate any feedback or info on it. The first is the 1952-D Huge D Washington Quarter. I can't seem to find much info about it on the internet. The only thing I can find is there seems to be a low pop on the NGC and PCGS population reports. Also the Cherrypickers' Guide says it's a very rare variety. I'd like to find out more about it. The MM is just insanely big!! It's not a high grade at all, but I'll still take it. Next is a low grade 1946 Walking Liberty DDR, my first.. Then a decent XF 1934 Walker. It's taking an acetone bath right now, hopefully some of the debris on it will come off. And lastly a decent Mid AU 1943-S Walker
I would agree with you on that. Looking at it, if it were to be sent in for grading, I think it might come back AU-53 possibly AU-55 if the right person was in a good mood that day. Of course, I'd never send it in for grading. I'd rather spend the money on more coins.
You are really good at getting high quality images! I wish I knew how to. Your 1952-D quarter would only earn bullion value in most to all coin shops, I am sorry to say, but your 1934 half looks very attractive, better than mine. I should upgrade my example, now that I see yours. Ha, ha!
Just for comparison, I paid $27 for a 1952-S blazing UNC quarter about 5 years ago for my 1952 type set, but I upgraded that 1952 type set with a proof set, so I went to another coin dealer with my 1952-S quarter, and he only offered me bullion value for it, saying he can get a dump truck load of them if he wants to (in a sarcastic tone).
I have to admit, this is the first I'd heard of the Large D 1952 Washington Quarter. Here's a link to the PCGS CoinFacts PAGE.
@Daniel Jones, you are correct, if the 1952-D was a normal '52-D it would only be worth bullion value. But, this example is a fairly tough variety to find. It has a much larger D than the normal version. I'm certain it's worth a bit more than BV. Great Collections had an MS-64 example sell for $1485.00 in November of 2014 and back in October of 2010 an MS-65 example sold for $805.00 at Heritage. The interesting part is the Heritage auctions show three examples sold in 2010 with a steady increase each time. There is a VF-35 example for bid on GC with a starting bid of $95.00. Also thank you for the compliment on my photography. I have started a coin photography business. I have a member on this forum that I shoot for right now. I'm alway's looking for more people to shoot for. LOL
