Which coin magazine do you prefer? Why? TIA
    • Coin World is a must-read weekly newspaper that’s been published since 1952.

    • Coins is a monthly magazine.

    • Numismatic News is a weekly newspaper that has been published since 1952.

    • Numismatist is for anyone with any interest in coins. It has been published monthly since 1888 and is included in the American Numismatic Association basic membership package.

I see their digital issues monthly. Its thin though and most of the stories are rehashed stories most u.s. collectors know already, like where did "In god We Trust" come from, history of Barber coinage & Morgan Dollar or Commemoratives.

Sometimes though I find a article interesting.

As for me, I like Numismatist and Coinworld.

My preference is Coin World. I have been a subscriber since 1987. The great majority of my numismatic news comes from this board, though.

Bonus question! For Coin World subscribers, do you get the weekly or just the monthly issues? Is it safe to assume the monthly issues duplicate to some extent the stories that appear in the weekly issues?

The only one on your list I read is The Numismatist. I used to read Coinworld, and Numismatic News, but they both cover much of the same material, and I was getting much of the information online from other sources before I read it in the magazines so I discontinued both.

I do subscribe to two other quarterly magazines

The California Numismatist. Which is a publication of the NASC/CSNA. It requires a membership in one of the organizations but the membership fee was only $10 for the digital magazine. You can read past issues online at

    NASC.NET

I also subscribe to The Gobrecht Journal which is the quarterly publication of the Liberty Seated Collectors Club. It is a more specialized magazine to an area that interests me.

I currently have a digital subscription to Coinage magazine. I enjoy reading it and I can carry many editions on my iPad. If other coin magazines made it easier to get a digital subscription then I probably would read more of them. I had subscriptions from some of the others where they would provide a PDF that I would then have load onto my ipad. Coinage allows for direct downloads so it's pretty convenient.

I prefer Coin World though Coinage is certainly close. I see Coinage in the Supermarket, which I buy monthly. I am hoping to get a subscription soon to make it easier and cheaper to acquire each issue. I like to read both Coin World and Coinage, both are good and interesting. I seem to find more US coin related coin articles in Coinage and enjoy "Coin Capsule" in Coinage. Coin World seems to have more coin news such as current auctions, and a good selection of articles related to all sorts of coins including modern coins, ancient coins, world coins, etc. I found Coin World to help diverse my coin knowledge collection overall, making me more interested in world coins. It depends on what you like, if you are a strong US collector with not much interest in much else than I would chose Coinage. Though if you are interested in general coin related literature I would suggest reading Coin World. I recently read an issue of Coin World Weekly, which a coin dealer gave to me after he read. I found it very interesting to read with plenty of current coin related news, I think I might want to subscribe to it to have more to read. If you have not read any magazines I suggest to go to the store and find one to try and see if you like, I find that they are a good companion to any numismatist.

Unrelated but I have a 1968 Issue of Coinage which I will sometime post, very similar to the current ones, talking about new releases and Coin News (such as last month to redeem silver certificates and 1968 proof sets). I found it when a friend let me take what I wanted from her recently deceased husband. According to her there were many magazines, along with some other stuff she perceived trash, which she threw away quite some time before I came. The one I was able to save was hidden inside a box of old maps dating from the 1920's-1970's, along with an editor signed 1952 Edition of the "Scientific American".

I have been receiving the weekly edition for 28+ years. I rarely look at Coin World online.

There are recapped articles in the monthly which I had already read beforehand I have no interest in again.

I used to have a subscription a while ago. I enjoyed the magazine but needed to cut down on my subscriptions

Not currently a subscriber but I have stacks of old issues of Coins magazine that I still go back and read when I want some easy reading. I credit some of my enthusiasm for this great hobby to what I gleaned from "Coins" as a young collector.
