My experience with an accidental purchase mirrors the first part of this exactly, and I felt quite dumb for days. After receiving some counselling, I've come to accept that some apparent accidents are just meant to be. Looking forward to seeing yours, @Sallent .
This one time I accidentally bid $240 instead of the $24 bid I had wanted to put in (won the coin of course). Does that count?
ephesos ionien drachm ~200BC? Here's my recent accident. I made an offer for it, seller declined and sent a counter offer, which I didn't take but that entry stayed in "my ebay" for months. Then another day I was accepting counter offer on something else, mistakenly took this one instead, bah... It's a nice coin, just little overpaid, which I really didn't want to do since I had already 2 crappy copies of this issue.
The city of Ephesos in Ionia (in present day Turkey), circa 202 - 162 BC. The coin is a silver drachm, around 18mm in size and 4 grams in weight.
I did almost the same thing - I was browsing vcoins one night and added some coins ro my cart I was interested in. Well...I guess I went a little further in the checkout process than I meant to and in the morning I discovered I had an invoice. Here's one of the coins but I I can't find this Ptolemy's little brother an AE17. Ptolemy II, BC 285-246 AE42, 63.51g, 12h Obv.: head of Zeus-Ammon right Rev.: ΠΤΟΛΣΜΑΙΟΥ ΒΑΣΙΛΣΩΣ; two eagles standign left on thunderbolt, Θ between legs of left eagle Ref.: Svoronos 463
I can't say I have ever accidently bought a coin online. How does that even happen?! However I have accidently clicked the "add friend" button on some girl's facebook page. I was just checking out her photos on my mobile and it slipped out of my hand. When I went to catch it in midair one of my fingers hit the button on the touchscreen.
Wait, you seriously don't know how much is being charged to your bank account??? You guys must be rich! Hope I can someday buy stuff without a care how much is being withdrawn! LOL
When my students have their phones out in class I tap the screen to get them to put it away (this only happens if they're so engrossed they don't see me coming) and am pleased to have caused a lot of embarrassing likes/adds.
None of the coin types I was browsing were expensive, so whichever it was I must have gotten, I'm not really that concerned. I can always take a look at the bank balance today anyway.
I found this thread pretty funny. I had a similar experience, but it was with mail order brides from the Ukraine. You want to talk about surprised the next morning..........wife was NOT happy...............btw MUCH harder to upgrade after purchase. Seriously now, the phenomenon ya'll are experiencing has a term for it. This is no joke, I googled to make sure I wasn't dreaming it up. You are "Drunk Ebaying" btw it's a term that no longer is limited to Ebay. But EBay is the social phenom that created enough data points for this term to surface. I know everyone was completely on the level with their explanations. I'm confident nobody here was under the influence of anything but sleep deprivation. All the tales told seem completely plausible........ and with that 'disclaimer', I repeat, you are drunk ebaying.
I confess...I was in no condition to drive. Ok to shop online though! I think with v coins there's a point in the checkout process where you commit to purchase that may not have been very clear to me. Now buying of eBay when in my cups...back in Korea I would get packages I couldn't remember ordering! After the second time I made a new rule - no eBay after 4 drinks.
I'm still laughing, "I accidentally bought a coin". I accidentally drank a lot sat at an auction, bought way too many Morgan's then had to figure out how I was going to pay for them.....
Accidental purchases are a new thing, created by the internet. So many buttons! I think a lot of us have done the same thing. This one is my accident, bought if I remember right about twice what it was worth at the time:
