Yes, this is one of my favourite videos professor Butcher has on youtube. The video makes it pretty clear how important numismatics can be in helping us work out the past.
Octavian, Crawford 540/2; CRI 315; Sydenham 1338 - 36 BC. Advertising the yet to be built Temple of Divius Julius in the Roman Forum. I think Octavian was haggling with the local building code bureaucrats at the time complaining that your "Columns are too small, the sign exceeds neighborhood code for a building of that size, the fishmonger next door is concerned about chariot parking..."
Temples....I got some but looking at the assortment of other coins posted I wonder if my money is good here. Show it to the money changer, its silver!!!

When I posted my sole temple coin yesterday I didn't count a coin won just a few days ago. In an impressive feat of post-auction processing and shipping, it arrived today! A Marcus Aurelius sestertius with Aedes Mercury-- it's comfortably worn like an old pair of jeans . For a nice writeup on this "Miracle of the Rain" coin, see @zumbly's post from earlier this year. Marcus Aurelius Sestertius; 31 mm, 24 gm; struck AD 173, Rome mint Obv: laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right Rev: Mercury standing left on pedestal, holding caduceus and purse (it looks more like a patera to me); within temple with figural columns (telamones); on semicircular pediment, tortoise (unfortunately missing on this coin), cockerel, ram, caduceus, winged helmet, and purse; S-C across fields; RELIG AVG in exergue Ref: RIC III 1074; MIR 18, 258-6/37; Banti 260

Gosh, that's shipping on steroids for you! It looks so much better in your picture, the green is great... the auction's was so desaturated (as usual).
Wow, Princess => that's a sweet, sweet coin (man, it has fantastic eye-appeal) nice cockerel ... congrats (I'm very jealous)
David- love your coin, really sharp! I picked up one recently; it's kind of a scab, but as old as it is--- I can only hope I look so good when I get that old. I'd like to think it's Vespasian, but I'm sure it's just a dream. Can't really tell what it is, but the temple is really great.
I know this is an old post but I just purchased a bunch of temple coins at auctions this weekend, so I'm breathing life back into this thread: Syria, Seleucis and Pieria - Antioch. Trebonianus Gallus Mesopotamia, Nisibis - Philip I Mesopotamia, Nisibis - Philip I Mesopotamia, Nisibis - Otacilia Severa Pamphylia, Perge - Gallienus Mesopotamia, Nisibis - Philip I Cyrrhestica, Cyrrhus - Philip I Cyrrhestica, Cyrrhus - Philip I
