I'll let some one else venture a grade and value, but I must say that is one fine looking coin.:thumb: Exellent piece, though it does appear to have been lightly cleaned at one time.

    My, my, my.....
That is a pretty little darlin'.
It has a little edge problems and a touch of wear on the tail & breast.
I'd say it was AU-58 and books around $230.
The top wing-tip of the eagle looks a little wierd to me though.
It looks like it could be a nick or something.
    Is it ?

    Nice coin though.
    ;)

Some better than me needs to check that date - but is that the flag for the seven on the second 8? I also think I see the dot diagnostic, plus the nick on the wing-tip is another diagnostic for snow-1 mid-die state. If this is true the coin is worth a lot more than $230.

Here is a snow-6 for comparison on heritage. Of course you have to be a member to see the pictures.

Thanks Mark, I forgot about those variations.

Wow! That looks like a snow-1! That could be worth a pretty penny....

WOW I did notice there was something different about this coin. The right wing tip feather is separated from the wing - no crud.

I actually think it is a snow-6 - based off the picture from heritage. Look at the E in ONE - looks closed to me. I would have this puppy graded - looks to be a 2k to 3k coin.

Varieties on FEC's are not my forte, but I'd say the coin has been harshly cleaned.

Didn't mean to imply it was by you - just that it has been done ;)

I got to exited over the possible variety. I don't see anything in the picture on the obverse, but on the reverse I see what may be hairlines around some of the devices. Is that what you are talking about? Just curious.

The hairlines are there on both sides. The lighting for the picture of the reverse is better and makes them easier to see, but they are there on the obverse as well - a bit worse even IMO.

I would agree with the cleaning comment, but I would say that it may possibly have UNC details depending on how it looks in hand. The areas on the breast and tail can sometimes be weakly struck, even on better UNC specimens.

I don't have a reference for Snow variety diagnostics here with me, but that is something definitely worth checking out.

    edduns,

With your permission, I could probably post your pictures over on the PCGS boards and ask about the Snow variety. Rick Snow posts over there a good bit and could probably chime in about the coin. Just thought this may help.

Wow, another nice one. Very nice. I agree with the cleaning though, but the color is still good! Very nice. :thumb:
