Wow. Terrific strike. 61 is nearly an insult. :)

Nice coin. So where are all those people who constantly say ANACS overgrades?

I am not one. They have undergraded a few that I originally sent to NGC.

Very nice coin. Inspired me to pick up a 1915 last night.

Regrade. I thought it was either 63 or 64.

If that is really a 61 (which feels insultingly low) that is the best 61 I have ever seen. There are 63s out there that are worse than this coin.

If anything that coin had a slight edge over the NGC coin.

The grading landscape has changed drastically over the last 18 months or so, and old habits are dying hard. I've been seeing some pretty strict - in cases, overly-so - grades in new slabs from all three, and we've discussed them at various points including this one. On the other hand, we're also seeing some pretty egregious errors, too.

Whoa ! that's way too tough . I didn't expect anything that low at all , unless the pics are hiding the hits and I doubt they are hiding any that would make it a 61 .

Tighter grading is no problem. But don't make up criticism of too-loose grading by erring in the other direction, as I think it was with this coin.

I think it should bring at least a 64,I see no damage to justify the 61 grade at all....

That is a beautiful coin. I love those and the incused design has a history all its own. Nice find!

Are you sure that it isn't an AU-58 that got a pretty bump? That's the only justifiable reason that I can see for a 61.

Whenever I see a WTH grade on a ms61 or 62 gold coin that is what I think. In this case I am not so sure. Looks pretty unc to me.

Yep, I'm with you, just don't see any justification for the grade otherwise.
