Dear All, Just in the news, wonderful, I love the Etruscan people. http://news.discovery.com/history/archaeology/intact-packed-etruscan-tomb-found-151204.htm This very, very rare !!
The Etruscans made no coins to speak of, which is a shame. But yeah, interesting find nevertheless. I have always loved their statues of figures reclining in couches.
Italo Vecchi actually recently release a book on Etruscan coinage: https://www.cngcoins.com/Coin.aspx?CoinID=235440
Nice! Thanks for posting. I really enjoyed the copious pics. Nothing annoys me more than an article about a fascinating and important archaeological discovery with only a couple measly images.
I must admit amazement that there are 2541 Etruscan coins let alone a market for a $350 book about them. Before this thread, I could name two Etruscan types so I looked on acsearch and turned up quite an array of things currently not importable into the US. There are many coins I'll never have but these include some interesting ones.
Roma had a very large number of Etruscan coins in their last few auctions. The estimates were high and there were oodles of unsold lots.
Dough I agree, I also am amazed about the number of coins, I have visited many Etruscan places...but about their coins I know nothing...only Populonia I knew close to Elba Island.
