Are the coins in these sets in hard plastic capsules? Would they be easy to remove if I wanted to put them in something else? Thanks

I believe they're in cellophane. If you search eBay for (ENTER DATE) Uncirculated Mint Set, you will find visual examples.

The mint set coins come in cellophane plastic as Chris stated. It's a clear flimsy wrap basically, so it's easy to cut.

The newer sets (2007 to the present) come in packaging that I have a great deal of trouble opening. Wish they would have stuck with the pliofilm

Is there a good way to open the new ones?

I use a pair of scissors and carefully try to cut around each coin that I want to remove. But the cardboard and polystyrene (I think that's it, right? Someone correct me if not) plastic make it very difficult to control the direction of the blade.
