Fiji has recently issued a new series of banknotes, which includes for the very first time,a $100 banknote. This time, the notes depict the Queen's portrait facing forward, even though Fiji is both a republic,& a British Commonwealth member state. You can find details of the banknotes on the website of the Reserve Bank of Fiji, which can be found at www.rbf.gov.fj .

Rick,I have seen at least 1 example of each of the new Fijian banknotes. They are printed by Thomas De La Rue of London,England.

You will be pleased to know that I bought a $2 (which is green & grey on the front) & a $5 (which is brown, yellow,& grey on the front). They have multicoloured backs.I paid NZ$11 for them,as they're very nice banknotes that are going in my collection.

Spock1k,the Fijian $100 banknote is not polymer at all.It feels like polymer, but it is actually paper. It has been out since early in April,as has the rest of the denominations right down to the $2.

Like the 2002 issue, the signatory is Savenaca Narube, who is the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji.

you and spock are both right and both wrong about the $100. it's not a polymer note, and it's not a paper note...it's a "hybrid" made of both. :D

SanMiguel, the Fijian $100 note is not made from a combination of paper & polymer at all.It has been made from a specially treated paper. My boss made a special 4 day trip over to Fiji to get them.He had to pick up a nice lot of coins as well from the Reserve Bank of Fiji, which is in Suva.

    aidan, your information is incorrect.

the clear oval window on the security strip is made of polymer, while the rest of the note is paper...thus making it a paper/polymer "hybrid". this same technology is featured in the bulgarian 20 leva commemorative. the "20's" are printed on a clear polymer window, so they look normal on the front, and appear mirrored on the reverse.

this security feature is called "optiks" and is produced by de la rue. it also appears on the kazakhstani 2006 10,000 tenge note, and will appear in this year's new latvian 100 latu notes.

Steve,I can guess that you are falling off your chair when you see the Fijian $100 banknote & Bulgarian 20 Leva banknote pictures.

No interest in the Bulgarian but it is nice and the Fiji might be a bit to expensive for me at the moment :D
