Oh, I prefer to think of it as repairing history. Larry Niven's Law of Time Travel states that, if time travel into the past is possible, it will never be invented -- because if it's invented, people will go back and mess with the past, changing history, until someone does something that prevents time travel from ever having been invented. I'm just making sure that, when things finally stabilize, I'm the owner of the Meredith 1849 $20. As I was supposed to be.
Repairing history? What if all of our aircraft carriers were at Pearl Harbor at the time of the Japanese attack, and Japan was able to successfully invade the west coast? What if Monty was made Supreme Commander in World War II instead of Eisenhower, and Hitler had enough time to develop his own atom bomb? What if the Cuban Missile Crisis resulted in World War III and the US & Russia duked it out with thousands of nukes? Chris
That is a tough question, but i would have to go for my favorite coin. I would go back and get an UNC 1916 Standing Liberty Quarter. I would put it in my collection and never the sell the thing!
I really don't know what to go back and get. The more I think about it, the more I think about it. I could go back to the beginning of the US Mint and get a pocket full of gold, but the exchange rate from today's dollars to those dollars, well, I'd have to win one in a crap game while there. Then what would I do with it? No internet to show it off plus it would probably cost me more than what ever I got to get a ride back home, minus the tip. Now that I think about it, I've thought too much about it.
Here's a time paradox for you. I would go back and get my profile pic. A well worn 1934 quarter. Except when I got it it would be in a MS67 state or higher. However if I get that coin, then in the future I never find it much longer down the road, and never start coin collecting which means I never would have gone back in time to get it, which means the coin would continue on it original path to me, which means I start coin collecting, which means I go back in time, which means...
Hmmm. Would it be too greedy to get the complete panama pacific set with both round and octagonal $50.
Well none if I have to "get by security" but if I could acquire it legally: That would be a close second for me. I love that design and a 58 was the first coin I ever bought (instead of pulling from circulation) But the #1 pick for me would be another with an eagle on it. the 1907 double eagle ultra high relief ms69 but then, someone already got that one.
1944 Steel Penny, and a 1913 Liberty Head "V" Nickel, My brother wishes if he could get a 1913 Indian Head "Buffalo" Nickel.
