You need to take a close look in those denticals below the date :)

From the image on my pad it looked to be a mpd.
The resolution on this screen is sharp but sometimes plays tricks . Plus sometimes the denticals are not sharp and look to have a digit in them.

  8. I've purchased many coins on E-Bay and have been unsuccessful on only one occasion. As for this way of buying coins being a gamble? I would much rather risk buying a coin than expecting a return from putting my money on a horse.

It has been a while since this thread had any posts....time for a resurrection! I bought this 1859 Seated Liberty Half on the 16th of Sept:

But this is what came in the mail:

Much better color!!!! Not a gamble really, except for the stain on the obverse at 5 o'clock position just after date. I was pretty worried it could be solder (been there, done that), but it was just a stain.

I just did a small gamble. Hoping this girl has some color and looks better than the pictures show.

My two most recent gamble / wins are off at NGC right now (and me waiting impatiently!)

I got an MS64 1924-S peace dollar that has consensus among 2 ex-pro graders that it should go higher and quite possibly go 65.

I won a lot of 50 peace dollars at $18ea, and ended up with an uncirculated 1928-S and a 1926-S that are being graded. I'm expecting a pair of 62's and I even got a couple of MS63 at least in 22p and 23p.

I should have them slabbed in hand...in a few weeks.

Just got this one. Not really sure what to expect. Said multicolored toning so I guess we'll see.

This was another gamble. Pictures were from a distance and pretty blurry

You can just barely make out the grade here, but it's an AU-50

I guess I'm confused as to how this was a gamble or considered a gamble? You knew it was graded by a top TPGC so you had think it was genuine and fairly accurately graded. How is that a gamble? Wouldn't you just put in a bid you thought FMV and wait for it to end? A gamble would fuzzy or grainy pictures of a coin that might be different than what the seller depicted as far as condition. Not trying to being smart or anything just curious.
