Making it a goal to get my 7070 filled by the end of the year; we'll see how that goes. Came across this 1866 Shield Nickel with rays and thought this was a nice slot filler for $38.
1866 F S - 05-1866- 901 clashed reverse + repunched date...fletchers 09A Judging from your specimens condition I say you did very well... as its a $300.00 in xf! I will copy and make the clash to show... two thumbs up! Found in the cpg
Well not a bad way to go into a Monday. Thanks for the information and, as always, the sharp eye! Was not expecting that. Can't wait to get this in hand to have a better look!
Nice looking Shield Nickel and that it’s certainly a good price. Looks like you hit the jackpot. A flag, clash and die cracks. Hope you get you 7070 completed like you want. I need about 25 coins to fill mine.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than pickin ,and being able to make a post like the one above. In todays world we need little things to help off set the sometimes craziness. If a few minuites spent doing something I love....helps another member enjoy the hobby that I have.... for more than a half century.... thats all I need ... as thanks. You're more than welcome! And anytime I can offer assistance it's my pleasure.
Looks good. I like the With Rays type, and have fond memories of the 7070 album. I took the liberty of fixing the image in your original post so it would display full sized instead of as a thumbnail. (This is a setting you can choose yourself when in posting mode.) Edit: aha, I see @Paddy54 already assisted with the pics.
Definitely a nice looking circulated coin. Can’t go wrong at $38. I’d love to have that one in my type set.
I want to post a follow up...as many varieties do have sub variety also. Shields esspecially I have a few discovery specimens that actually were already noted but had a small difference in the original variety. You'll sometimes see a variety listed as the xyz-001 followed by another xyz-001a. A sub variety of the main. This specimen I give it a f 10 /12 grade tyou can see the clash between the stars ...however the extent of the clash maybe lighter than the variety mentioned or slightly different, and or worn..down. Never the less for a $38 purchase with or without the variety you did well... the clash was the icing on the cake. And yeah it made my Monday too!
That was quite the rabbit hole but interesting to read about all the varieties and sub varieties. I can make out the clash now and agree it does seem lighter. Should get it by Thursday, I'll provide some updated pictures!
