I just picked up this amazingly toned 1963 D MS 64 Franklin, with gorgeous toning. It is in a PCGS slab. Obviously, it is not FBL, given the hit on the reverse, but with rainbow toning like that, who cares? Picked it up at a reasonable price on an offer. This is as close to a monster Franklin as I have ever owned. Looks exactly like this in the slab.
Man, shame about that reverse damage but that is a beautiful looking coin. As you said, not an FBL, but who cares? The toning is wonderful.
Yep, it's properly "beastly". I do not like a lot of the "monster toned" Franklins out there. This one I do.
I agree. I would guess that coins like mine and yours came from the old vintage Whitman albums, which transfer lots of rainbow toning.
It's probably just me, and maybe a couple of others, but the more I see of coins like this (and it's a beauty for what it is) the more I like "honest" coins that show hard working circulation wear. Something "comfortable" about seeing those coins. I guess my taste is changing with my age.
Agreed. It's like I've seen people saying the 1922 Peace Dollar seems to be the one that tones the most. Well, there are so blasted many of them that some people have decided to become creative with them. Sorry for the digression.
I always thought circulated franklins looked like crap. Recently though I’m liking them a lot. Crazy how tastes can change.
Over the years I’ve noticed the 63 P is the easiest of the 1960’s Franklins to find with attractive toning.
