Sorry MM been at work today. Dude I am green with envy over your new coin. A silver of Theo II is on my list among many other things and almost probably would have gotten one that was offered by one of our members here but it had already sold by the time I found it. Congrats on the pickup!

That was one great write up. I was fully engaged and either learned or refreshed a lot of info in the process. Makes me wish I never sold my Honorius solidus years ago. Great job.

Here is some info on this scare denomination.
It would seem that by the time of Theodosius II the differences between the heavy and light Miliarense had disappeared. https://books.google.com/books?id=s...73CQ0Q6AEIUDAK#v=onepage&q=Miliarense&f=false
I wonder if this coin was issued for general circulation or if it was used as a donative? Looks like I have to hit the books this morning!

 

Funny thing I just remembered! Theodosius II was half spaniard and at least a quarter german. His father Arcadius was a full Spaniard and his mother Aelia Eudoxia was at the very least a half barbarian (her father was a Romanized Frank). Interesting to say the least!
