I'm new at trying to find error coins but was going through a large jar of pennies and found a few interesting ones. Can someone take a look and give their opinions on if they are double dies or just machine dies. I also found a cool die break (I think) that filled in between the date and mint mark.
1st pic is a die break or solder. 2nd coin looks like MD...need better photos of the last 2 (full coins, both sides please)
Here are the same with full size photos, but I'll have to take new ones to get a better focus and both sides.
79 looks like its a glue residue to me. The 87D is die deterioration doubling. The 89D is hard to tell with the photo as is the reverse photo.
None are doubled dies. As for the 79, while I would assume it to simply be a foreign something on the coin, better photos would help in making such a determination. Perhaps this would be of some help to you... http://doubleddie.com/144801.html
The 1987 and 1989 are both DDD - Die Deterioration Doubling I want to share this website with you - - http://www.lincolncentforum.com/die-deterioration-doubling-ddd/
The correct and proper terminology is Doubled Die - quote "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology" closed quote I want to share this webpage with you - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doubled_die
Yes we have a CONECA table in the front row as you enter the doors. Ken is planning on being there as well.
That 1979 is pretty cool. I don't think I've ever seen a die chipped that must at the date before. They are a fairly common error but usually much smaller.
Miguel, welcome to CoinTalk. It would be best if you started your own thread and post pictures of your coin. Include full photos of both sides of the coin and up close of the area(s) in question. This will help others to give you feedback on what it is. To start a thread, go to the Error Coin Forum page and click the 'Post New Thread' button at the top of the page. When posting pictures, use the 'FULL Image'. Good Luck!
Ha! Yes, looking back now. This was my very first post on CoinTalk, and I had just started looking at coins. Hadn't even found any of the good websites or books out there to explain what was what. I sure have learned a lot from the people here!
Thanks. Looking back at these coins, the 1979 above is now listed in Cuds-On-Coins as IDB-1c-1979D-01. The others, well..not so lucky.
