This Maroneia stater is a recent purchase of mine. The reverse grapes could be a touch nicer but the obverse is the best I've found:
=> yah, I should have known!! (well played, Mr. Bond) That coin is absolutely amazing, AJ ... => that fricken sheep symbol is off-the-hook!! (ummm, or is it a sheepdog?) ... either way, that is my new AJ-favourite!! (congrats) man, even the grapes are outstanding!!
Honestly though ... it gets pitch-black-dark at 4 pm and it's colder than a well digger's undies!! 25 years and counting ... thank God I'm the guy that can find really cool things as well I never have to leash my dogs => I can walk along a beautiful riverside trail all year long with my two friends jogging and sniffing as we go ... I know almost everybody when I go to Walmart and Safeway on Saturday (good and bad, obviously) ... but you do get that "hometown feelin'" I get paid lots => nobody else wants to work up here, right ... it does allow me a bit of coin-cash (bonus) I met my sweet wife up here ... amazingly, her Dad was born in Portugal, but she was born here (she even knows how to speaks Portuguese, because there is a whole bunch in the same boat) ... it's awesome ... there is a sub-culture, combined with a small-town mentality => yah, which equals a whole lot of parties!! (your son is marrying who? ... well then we need a party!!) OBVIOUS TRADEOFF => we go to Boston Pizza on date-night!! (small-town disadvantages are culture, costs, etc) ... oh well ... Cheers (I'm happy and I walked my dogs this afternoon, baby-sat the godchild, watched/snuggled a movie) ... live is what it is, right? cheers
Brrr, Daryl ... I feel ya Yah, we've actually had a very sweet November so far (knock-on-wood) ... it's kinda like we stole a month away from Father-winter (I guess it all evens-out?) ... Ohio, eh? (I guess I knew that) ... Bengals rock, or you don't give a poop? Cheers, either way (you're a good coin-head, my friend)
Recently acquired alot of these Thasos tets. These are the two I think I will keep. The original! Beautiful Celtic design!!
Jango => born and raised in Florida, eh? ...... you would die in a week up here (do you remember the scene where Luke Skywalker had to slit-open the big mammal and crawl inside ... umm, or maybe it was Hans?) => either way my friend => they teach us that move on day-1
As I sit here, in front of my PC, reading this fine thread, with a glass of cheap Sutter Home merlot in hand, it seems an especially appropriate time to post this most appropriate coin. Thasos, Island of Thrace, ca. 190 - 150 BC. Silver Tetradrachm (16.9 gm.; 33 mm.). Obv.: Head of Dionysos wearing ivy-wreath right. Rev.: HPAKΛEOYΣ ΣΩTHPOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN. Youthful Herakles standing three-quarters left, head left, holding draped lion's skin and club; before, M monogram. Reference: SNG Oxford 3677; SN Delepierre 839.
Nice ... that's kinda like my early years on the West Coast ... drizzly winter months Again, I realize that living where I do is a nasty thing (temp-wise), but do wanna know a fact? Because it's so cold where I live, there is seldom clouds ... so I get clear-pretty-skies for most of the winter ... Okay sure, that translates into bone-chilling-cold temps!! ... Question: do you want pretty, or do you want rainy? Cheers?
