My guess is that it is AU, but I am going to get one of these to be unc. yet. The coins I have seen him sell previously have been way overgraded and I suspect that this one is also. Please tell me I am wrong. - - 1912-S - -
I dont even think it is AU, but i usally get out voted on what i think coins grade, so.. i will wait to see what others chime in with
I like this coin, it has a lot of eye appeal in my opinion, I'm not seeing wear though, good luster showing through the BN , I could see this being BU, definatley not high grade, Id say MS60BN though... Maybe as high as MS63BN ... If it is not BU... I would be suprised... I do see what "could" be a trace of wear on Abes cheek, and part of his beard, but it also could be the lighting, a tuff one to tell for sure with seeing it in hand... DAK The bonus is, he accepts returns and only 17 negs out of over 11,000 feedback received... I think its a safe buy, most you'll be out is a couple bucks postage if it isn't to your liking!
Personally I do not think it is unc, I think it has been cleaned and retoned based on the pics. But if I may ask rlm, you obviously have an interest in the 1912-S cent, why not look for one graded already ? MS62 - 63 examples slabbed by NGC or PCGS sell for $140 - $200 while this cent for example they are asking $170 - $180 raw. If it were me I would never take such a chance on a raw coin for equal money for a slabbed one. But that's me.
I have been. This is supposed to be my Xmas present. Does that tell you how much luck I have had. No local dealer has one, I have not seen one on eBay, and my local coin show did not have one either. They did have a MS64 brown, but wanted $600 for it! I want it, but not that bad. PCGS price list only has that for $300. Heritage has had one this year. I should have had that one, but I blew it. If you have any other ideas, please speak up!
Would you consider using a dealer that you don't know if I recommend them ? Bear in mind, if I recommend someone, I would stand behind them personally.
I do not think it is UNC either....I would go with around AU-50, and I agree with GDJMSP's comments about cleaning. Early Lincolns are very hot right now, and nice examples do not remain in dealer's inventory for long, if they even make it to the inventory. Take your time, and you will find a nice one.
OK, I rather doubt he has one at the moment, but he can find one. Contact Josh - HERE - tell him what you want and in what grade, a price range for such, and let him find it.
rlm: I agree with your earlier statement. The seller often has overgraded coins, and they are often cleaned. This one is not an unc.
I've purchased several items from Dan. Call him and ask him if it has been cleaned and retoned. I can't speak for him but I can me. I have had no issues with his service, coins, grading or emails.
My One Cents worth... No better than EF 40 Cleaned..... I don`t subscribe to the "Net Grade" after cleaning.
