So I ran across this nice cent while searching some old bank wrapped rolls of wheaties. It was in with a bunch of other reds but it appears to be clipped. Any thoughts? I belive it to be a ragged clipped planchet myself, but I am having a hard time putting a value on it. I don't think it is worth quite enough to get graded, but I also think it is worth more than a few dollars. I would really appreciate any help on identifying the error and placing a value on it. Thanks as always!
Looks like someone testing out their "pinking shears" then pounding it over to the obverse!! Must be some serious scissors!!
I thought the same thing. A ragged clip would look like this... http://www.error-ref.com/ragged-clips/
I'm not buying the story - 1st 2 pics ain't the same but have the same type damage!! Proverbial - "can't pull the wool over our eyes" !!
Both of the pictures show the same coin. See what appears to be a die crack on the shoulder? It's also on the 2nd picture but harder to see because of the lighting. Edit: I mean it's harder to see on the first picture than the second picture.
Thanks, that obviously doesn't look anything like what I have. Its a pitty if someone did use a tool on it. I was worried about those serrations. Don't think this could be from a machine at the mint?
Yeah I was trying to get a good picture of that, but it was hard once it was in the 2*2. One of the pictures was with my flash and one was without.
don't think so. The machine that punches out the blanks is just that...a punch...it forces a round metal rod through the metal sheet effectively sheeting the metal so there aren't any serrations.
I wasn't saying the coin was an error. I was only pointing out that both pictures were of the same coin.
Well , remember the old proverb? Believers are suckers unless someone can prove what they are believing in - or not!!
Oh hell - now i'm gonna get a bunch of - "He's got a chip on his shoulder" comments - Damn it Jim, I'm just a doctor
