I think that the design by Daniel Carr would have been a great hit!

I agree, maybe clean her face up with a little more human detail and it would have been a beautiful, we probably would not be going through this Presidential series of hit and miss portraits we have going on now.

That portrait of Liberty is teriffic ! It's a meld of the $10 Indian face, Peace S$1 hair, and a little of the 1793 Half Cent somehow thrown in.

And the Susan B. Anthony should have been thrown out. Gotta be the worst, ugliest design in US history.

Very nice. How did we miss out on this one, and get stuck with the Sacs we know and ignore ?

It's possible that someone insisted on a design by a Native American, or that it be a design by a female, since that's what wound up happening. Don't know.

    This one is simply beautiful.

Why do they always choose the ugly designs? This design and the one posted by CoinOKC are awesome.

I say it's about time Miss Liberty went back on our circulating coinage!

it is VERY about time!!! i am very tired of seeing the same dead presidents on all our coinage. yes, theo did some wonderful things! Lincoln did some very important and wondefull things as well. washington .. ok so i will stop there.. we all know the presidents on our countrys coinage all did some fantastic things for our country!!!! but anywhere from 64+ to 100 years they have been sitting on our coinage facades... its PAST time to retire them for a more abstract patriotic design.

When the coinage depicting the Americans that are now depicted on our coinage - YAY! we were showing them a GREAT honor!!! and they deserved it. People LOVED them (boththe coins and the men that they honored) People honored Lincoln, Washington, Theo, jefferson and Kennedy .. as well as Franklin (cant forget him). Do people today? Do they honor the men whose portraits are on our coinage? Maybe, but i doubt as much as they did when the portraits firstr adorned our coinage.

What happens when you see the same thing DAY AFTER DAY? you become desensitized to it. it no longer means as much. If we put a commemorative coin out for Kennedy for his 100 b-day or something .. if it has a maximum mintage of 500,000 would it sell out if the kennedy half is still circulating? It might, but IMHO i dont think it would. Why? because we are desenitized to his great feats because we see his portrait so often - and not NEARLY as often as the 25c, 5c 10c and 1c coins. If we were to take these portraits of our coinage and 20 years later issue a commemorative coin celebrating these great men .. if 500,000 was the maximum mintage - do you think it would sell out? I certainly think so! (although there is still the chance they might not)

I believe the men depicted on our nations coinage did a tremendouse service to our country!!!! They were worth honoring. I doubt any American could say thyey did not deserve to be there. But its done. We honored them. Lets move on. Revitalize our nations coinage (and possibly currency as well) with some new fresh designs. I prefer the alegorical designs of yester-years Liberty's.. but i would not object to a current artists renderings of liberty depicted on our coinage.

We need to feel PROUD of our nations currency. We need to feel Patriotic about our currency - and not waiting another month so we can melt them :D

I think that eagle is a "tip of the hat" to the oldest "small eagles" on the original Flowing Hair designs.

But I agree about the reverse... not good. I'm a little more accepting of the obverse... looks really classic. They incorporated the "ribbon in the hair" from the Draped Bust series (a favorite).
