the same collectors and investors who used to buy a lot of these u.s. modern circulated coins are also owning the prez dollars. the general public is still not care about this new prez coin series. it will be just like the other series faded away as time pass by.

    visited a bank

i went to a bank and check if they have a roll of prez dollars. she told me that she only got one piece. if i would like to change it from her. no way jose. no thanks. i want a new unc roll. that's proof another failure on this prez dollar.

if you buy directly from u s mint. prez dollar single proof cost $5.95. 4-pc proof cost $3.74 each. prez dollar with silver, clad, & unc set cost around $1.50 for the prez $..

what happened to the prez dollars? can't see any activities from general public. much much quiet than the state quarters. is this another failure on that dollar coin?

    failure again

what a shame?... the mint or the government involved doesn't really listen to collectors ideas. we need a dollar coin smaller than the sac dollar. like quarter. and discontinue using the dollar bill. just keep issuing dollar bill for the collectors.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it!

One of the principal public objections to the SBAs when they came out was that they were too close to a quarter in size.

That's the only method that has worked in other countries, and in the estimation of many the only method that can work here. The politics of the situation just won't allow it to happen any time in the forseeable future. :(

The Canadians for a very long time had both a $1 banknote & the Voyageur $1 coins in circulation. When they switched over to Loonies, they've never looked back.Perhaps if America had gone down the Canadian route & stopped printing $1 notes years ago, then the $1 coins would get a lot of circulation.

i agree plus there are a lot of people who oppose the new dollar because in god we trust is NOT on the obverse or reverse faulsely thinking it's not on the coin at all.

Grizz, the edge of the Presidential Dollars is actually regarded as being the third side. That's why the date, mintmark & mottos are located there,in addition to preventing clutter on both the obverse & reverse sides.

Similar complaint about the 20c pieces in 1875... too similar to a quarter. They were doomed. And we repeated it !

Maybe having circulating dollar coins isn't The Holy Grail. Maybe numismatists want that - why, I don't know - but does the other 95% of the population want that ?

Maybe people prefer $1 paper, which fits in the same place as all other bills, rather than heavy clunky coins, which are less easily organized in wallets or purses.

But the big issue is ... it isn't a big issue. Nation wide, few care whether or not $1 coins circulate.

dollar coin or two dollars coin

why not have both dollar coin and note?. and issue another two dollars coin but smaller and lighter. and see which one can fit the american people.

We do - Dead Prez AND SACS, plus the note.

In case you haven't noticed, the note circulates and the coins don't.
which would certainly not circulate any more than the existing $2 note.
I've looked in cash registers and seen that the American (capitalize this word please) people clearly prefer paper.

People consistently ignore dollar coins in circulation, but quarters are everywhere.

Therefore, the mint should have waited for the 50 State quarter thing to run its course, then put Presidents on a new Quarter design. They would attract more attention that way.

The Presidential Dollar thing is of interest only to numismatists, but the 50 State quarter thing has been popular with the general public.

There will be very few new coin collectors due to Presidential dollars - unlike State Quarters, which started many into coin collecting.

The State 25c program has been much more beneficial to the hobby than the Prez $1.

The push for dollar coins comes from the government, which can save the taxpayers millions by converting to a metal coin compared to the frequently-replaced notes. The taxpayers prefer to pay higher taxes and keep the notes.

If general public is going to be indifferent to the president dollars, imagine what the interest is going to be in the gold first ladies. I don't expect too many from the general public to pay the tariff to acquire four gold coins per year.

well, if i could.. i would CERTAINLY 'acquire' the four gold 1st ladies coins!!! I only wish they were authorized to do the silver coins for the 1st spouses... i would have gotten those :(

and i prefer the dollar note to the dollar coin.

My interest will be a whole lot less if someone tries to restrict my Freedom of Speech by coercing me to use the politically correct term "first spouses" ! I'm glad you guys call 'em what they are... First Ladies.

    Let's stay real.
