Is this common? Just asking because so far I'm just advertising my ignorance.

    Yes, it's common. It's machine doubling. Nothing special at all.

    It's still a bit cool. I don't remember many Peace Dollars with machine doubling being posted.

    Great example of the major signs of Machine Doubling. You can see the shelf-like appearance, the lack of split at the corners and the "doubling" reducing the stroke of the number instead of adding to it.
