I am a collector of $2 1/2 coins, and I am a sucker when I see one that is different than all the others. I have never seen one with this dark of toning, so had to have it. The first pictures are the sellers, then the crappy ones are mine. I was surprised to see a little vibrant color showing through the dark tone when the light hits it right. Also, the scratch in the seller pics really cannot even be seen in hand. I was worried about it.
You mean the scratch thru her chin? Do you think you can return it, because it doesn't have good eye appeal.
Lol, I actually love the look in hand. I have not seen another even close to this, so I will be keeping it.
Personally, I don't care for the obverse patina, but to each his own. Frankly, I'm a bit surprised at the XF45 grade given the two long scratches on the obverse. Chris
Nice, because it doesn't look like all the rest. Back in 1854 two and a half dollars was a lot of money.
Agreed. It's rare to see gold with this much color being adjudicated as original; it'd have received more than normal scrutinization by the TPG. All kinds of character in this coin.
