Hey everyone! I collect U.S. Cents, I don't know if I'm right here with my question... I have the Coin Folder No. 9030 (Lincoln Cent Collection 1941 to 1974 Number Two). Below the last three openings is just shown "VARIETIES". Does anyone have an idea which particular cents belong in there? Or can give me advice how I can find out about it? Thank you in advance!
Pretty sure you can put any varieties in there that you want. How to find out? Lincoln cent resource is one website. The folks here will give you a bunch more.
You can put any coin in there you want. I guess whitman ended up with xtra spaces so they just decided to put VARIETIES down. I think I put a cent from my birth year, an IHC, and a Memorial cent.
I would guess for the same reason they put the 1922 and 1955 doubled die in there, which there was no reason to do as they were both varieties/errors. Possibly thinking another would pop up that needed inclusion. What would really be outstanding is if one of the album companies came up with a album that was made solely for varieties of each series that required the gold foil transfers and included these in the album so you could do it yourself. Perhaps one album that had "U. S. Varieties" on the spine and had 5 different pages included for each series. I realize you can already do this yourself with a blank binder and buy the pages separate but it would be an additional and easy way to market a new album. I'd buy one.
I think the original intent was to display the reverse of a copper and steel wheat cent and the reverse of the memorial cent.
