    Hi Everyone!
Can someone post a picture of a sandblasted Lincoln cent? I'm curious about what it looks like because I think I bought a roll of sandblasted pennies. They were supposed to be 1982 BU Lincoln Pennies, but they really look funny, and they don't look uncirculated (or brilliant). They look like they have these really tiny bubbles on them. They also have these raised what looks like welts or snake-like thickness; almost like die cracks but 100 times that!

I don't have a good scanner, so I can't show anyone. Does any of this make any sense?

Sandblasting makes the coin appear billiant but I was told you can usually see it with a 10X loupe.

Someone probably tried to clean it chemically and you're seeing the aftermath. Post pics and one of the experts (no, not me) will be by with a pretty good idea of what happened.

It sounds like you have a whole roll of coins where the copper plating is not properly bonded to the zinc core. That would explain both of the conditions you describe.

Isn't it a little strange for a whole roll to be like that??

Agreed, I think you nailed it... Early - mid 80's are known for this! It is not rare at all as it is not caused by dies but by the way the coin blank iteself is made and prepared, this defect affected tons of them!!!

Not really, it indicates it is an original roll.

    And thank you ;)

Thank you for all your help! I feel better about the coins! I don't know what I would do without Cointalk!
