Found this coin searching today. Looks like the copper plating stopped short of the rim and the zinc shows through. It goes completely around the cent but I took pics of the widest parts. Any good worth saving? You can see it with just your eyes, that's what made me scope it. If worth saving what would this be called? Thanks for any info.
And you don't have to feed it - Like your new avatar - better than them Damn Yankees! Cracks me up - relating to a new member. I think you said you were 13?? GREAT JOB!!
Markus1959 (if that's your birth year, we share it), this is a strike artifact called "split plating" caused by the copper splitting away from the underlying zinc during the strike. Not of any real numismatic importance, but all but unknown before Zlincolns.
This is the problem with little kids on this site - they don't know history!! http://broadwaymusicalhome.com/shows/damnyankees.htm
Anyway, I had my yankees avatar in honor of a friend. His name is Greg Bird. You can probably figure who that is for yourself.
Guess he ain't so good!! "Cashman believes it is better for Bird to play every day in Scranton rather than ride the bench in the Bronx."
And I know the reason why. Because the yankees want Greg to have more playing time and they are paying an aged, overpaid Mark Texeira 23 million dollars!
